Pallbearer was shown to me buy a good friend of mine, after the proper six beers and a bowl he put on Pallbearer. The band is from Little Rock, Arkansas and play traditional Doom, It is very similar to Black Sabbath except slower, A LOT slower.  The vocals on this demo really surprised me, instead of the usual growled delivery I was treated to something soaring and powerful. The guitars are crushing and create a moody and dark atmosphere; Pallbearer really manage to rain down some heavy tunes that have me wanting more. The demo itself is three tracks, all clocking in longer than five minutes.

So spark one up, sit down and enjoy this amazing demo that shows a band full of promise. If you like your Doom in the vein of Pentagram, Saint Vitus, Pagan Altar then download this and go help these good southern boys out and buy some stuff. Look out for the full length some time this year.

Pallbearer – demo 2010 gets 4 kegs outta 5. They manage to evoke some strong emotions while keeping it heavy. Doom onward!

Sky Architects -The Reflection (2010)

It’s been a very, very long day. The last thing I wanted to do was review anything. But, their email caught my eye.

We play progressive rock with heavy influences from post-rock, post-metal and pop. We call it Doom-Pop

I looked to their Facebook page. I saw “Mr. Paradise – Vocal/Guitar”. The last thing I wanted to hear: shitty vocals on a mediocre post-rock sound. Wincing, I pushed play.

What I got was unexpected: incredible vocals on a unique post-rock sound. The total antithesis of what I expected. Thing was: I kind of got the Doom-pop vibe. Songs like “These Walls” had this guitar line that’s been practically unrivaled by many of today’s top post-rock bands. Their sound really ranged between The American Dollar, Signal Hill and Eyehategod. Their vocals fit the mood entirely. Not whiny, not screaming, really reminded me of the male vocalist from Ef. Nor was it the main focus of the song. Some tracks didn’t even have vocals. This really was the clearest example between bands with a vocalist and those with “lead singers”. Small time band with big time heart, Sky Architects are really not to be missed. Considering they’ve already shared the stage with 65daysofstatic, And So I Watch You From Afar and Caspian, they already look like they’re going places. I really didn’t have a favorite track. I feel taking one track out of this album would truly take away from the beauty of the album as a whole. Listen to the whole album. Make it an experience. Live.

Rating: I’m giving these Danes a 5/5 kegs. Incredible work.

Hey Revolutionaries! I recently revived a split from Louisiana natives Thou and Haarp titled “Reincarnation Prayer”.  The Track “Thinning” by New Orleans natives Haarp is a super heavy doom and sludgy aural assault that is a bit repetitive but still very enjoyable.

Thou contributes the track “Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos” (what a mouthful) and it is a killer! It is a musical journey that is sludgy, dirty and in your face. Thou is a band that is known for having a heavy dark sludge sound that is balanced by beautiful female vocal parts and Isis influenced guitar parts. I expect to see big things outta these guys!

You can also Check out the track below download all of Thou’s music FOR FREE here

Thou will be playing at ABC No Rio with STOCKADE and WULFKRIEG on april tenth at 3pm
