Remember the best nights you ever had: your first kiss, the night you spent with your mate in his basement with a whole container of mulled cider. This, my friends, is the soundtrack to every night you’ve spent chilling.
Dark Dark Horse is the side project of Maybeshewill’s Jamie Ward and singer James Stafford from Kids in Cars. Honestly, this stuff is pretty intense. My friends and I are secret electronic indie pop fans, so when we get our hands on something this good, it doesn’t go away for long. What separates this band from many others is the vocalist. His voice is incredible, similar to the guy from Coldplay. If Minus The Bear wanted to be really electronic, then this is what they’d sound like, and I’d love every minute of it. Smack-dab in the middle of the album, look out for “Southwest of Orion” and “The Sound of Muscles That Have Frozen Closed”. The former has such a beautiful range of heavy to light, and the latter sounds reminiscent of VNV Nation.
Although only released in Japan, this album is a must-have for any fan of electronic indie pop or post-rock.
Rating: 3 out of 5 kegs. Some good stuff here.
